Mr. Clarence Augustas Whitworth, age 97, of Toccoa, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, June 18, 2012 at his home with his loving family by his side.
Born on October 5, 1914 in Toccoa, he was a son of the late Henry and Mary Ellen Mulkey Whitworth, Sr.
He attended Carnes Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Charter Deacon, and retired from Coats and Clark after 38 years and Stephens County School System.
Family members include his daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and Hugh Alexander of Buford, GA., and Ann and Sam Bennett of Clarkesville, TN and of Toccoa; sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Peggy Whitworth, Joe and Joann Whitworth, and Johnny and Vickie Whitworth all of Toccoa; a devoted niece, Margaret and her husband, Ray Nix; a brother Henry Whitworth, Jr.; sisters, Clara Watts, Ella Mae Smith, and Evelyn Sosby; fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Effie Eller Whitworth; a son and daughter-in-law Marvin and Vernell Whitworth; five brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock, June 21, 2012 at Carnes Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Scott and the Rev. Greg Nix officiating. Musical selections will be by his grandchildren, Tonya Hearn, Donna Smith, and Terry Whitworth.
Graveside services will follow at Carnes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Dr. Earl Fowlkes officiating and the Rev. Jerrell Beatty ministering the music.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Stacy Whitworth, Keith Whitworth, Cale Whitworth, Terry Whitworth, Wayne Smith, and Doug Dickinson.
The family will receive friends from 5pm-8pm Wednesday at the mortuary.
