Marilyn (Summers) Williamson

Obituary Date: Sunday, June 17, 2012


Mrs. Marilyn (Summers) Williamson, age 77, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012 at her residence, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She and her family were surrounded and sustained by the prayers of many during her illnesses.


A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 4:00 pm Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Gainesville. Rev. Dr. Terry Walton and Rev. Dr. Gerald Thurman will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.


Marilyn was born April 27, 1935 in Clinton, Illinois, the daughter of the late Harry Summers and Gwendolyn Brown Summers. She attended Illinois Wesleyan University where she met and married Richard in 1956. She graduated from Brokaw Hospital School of Nursing and was a registered nurse. Marilyn was a life-long United Methodist. She and her husband have been members of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church for 33 years, and the Comet Sunday School Class. She felt her calling was teaching Sunday School in the primary grades and for many years she helped adults and teenagers improve their reading skills. Until her illness, she was involved in the Wednesday Morning Women's Bible Study at Good News At Noon.


She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Richard (Dick) Williamson of Gainesville; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Deborah Williamson; Timothy Williamson; and Steven and Leisa Williamson; grandchildren, Joshua, Morgan, Nicole, Natalie, Leiah and Jenna Williamson; brother-in-law and wife, Dr. Gordon and Della Williamson and 6 nieces and nephews also survive.
