Dr. Richard Edmund Johnson, PhD, 92 of Gainesville died Monday June 11, 2012.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Johnson had lived in Gainesville for the past 8 years. He was a retired Professor from the University of Georgia and had also worked in the Insurance business. He was a former Little League Baseball Team Manager and a former Sunday School Superintendent. Dr. Johnson served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, V. Helen Johnson, Gainesville; daughter, Cheryle Kirk, Marietta, Ga., son and daughter-in-law; Richard Edmund, Jr. and Connie Johnson, Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren, Jesse Johnson, Weston Johnson Kirk, Ariel Glassman and Jordan Glassman.
Dr. Johnson is preceded in death by his parents; Samuel and Lillian Denelsbeck, granddaughter, Katherine Ann Kirk, sister, Anna Miriam Thomsen and a brother, Frank Johnson.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday June 16, 2012 at the Lanier Village Estates Chapel. Chaplain Richard Evans and Dr. Hugh Cauthen will officiate. A private family inurnment will be held at the Gainesville First United Methodist Church columbarium.
In lieu of flowers that family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Lanier Village Estates Chapel Endowment Fund, c/o Chaplain Richard Evans, 4000 Village View Drive, Gainesville, Georgia 30506.
