Nancy "Lillian" Fraser
Obituary Date: Saturday, June 2, 2012
The life of Mrs. Nancy "Lillian" Fraser will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2012 in the chapel of Lanier Village Estates with Chaplain Richard Evans officiating. A private graveside service will precede the memorial service.
Mrs. Fraser, age 84, a lifelong resident of Hall County, died on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at her home at Lanier Village Estates. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady; parents, Aaron and Nanny Souther; and brother, W.C. Souther. She is survived by a niece, Nancy Gilleland, and cousin, Jim Hudgins and his wife, Betty.
Mrs. Fraser and her late husband Grady owned and operated Fraser Homes and Trail Wood Acres in Hall County. She was also a licensed dental hygienist. Their love of Christ was the cornerstone of their marriage and as a result of their hard work, dedication and wise management the couple began their marriage with a mission of quiet philanthropy. Even in the early years they always found a way to honor God by helping others. Mrs. Fraser was often heard to say whatever she had was not hers but had "been entrusted to her by God" and she and her late husband took seriously their responsibility to use their resources to help others. In 1993 they founded Fraser Ministries to spread "The Word" by providing complementary Christian education videos and books to public libraries, prisons and juvenile correctional institutions. Their ministry was not confined to Georgia but also included ministries across the Southeast as well as Arkansas, Missouri, New Hampshire and Indiana. They also made the devotional booklet, "Daily Bread" available to businesses, organizations and individuals throughout Hall County. Mrs. Fraser passionately continued these ministries until her death.
Mrs. Fraser always felt a particular closeness and kinship with her "home place." Her life was spent on that special property and it was her dream to build a retirement home at this location where seniors would be encouraged to keep their bodies healthy and their minds alert. Although the Frasers were visionaries they found little encouragement in the early 1960s to pursue their dream. However, convinced that their dream would one day be realized, they added to their property and today the 87 acres is home to Lanier Village Estates on Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville. The late Mr. Fraser lived to sign the deed for the property transfer and in 2001 Mrs. Fraser moved to her third and last home on the property she had loved for a lifetime. She became the first resident of the Christian based retirement community where her apartment overlooked the Fraser Garden, dedicated to her and her husband, providing beautiful views of favorite flowers moved from their home a short distance away.
Mrs. Fraser was a member of Corinth Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for almost 50 years and was a member of the "Home Makers" Sunday School Class.
In addition to their Christian based philanthropy, numerous organizations in the greater Hall community, as well as state and national non-profit organizations, benefited from the quiet, humble and anonymous generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Fraser.
