Jesse Roscoe Keener

Jesse Roscoe Keener, 85, was born July 8, 1926 at Tiger, GA to William Marcus Keener and Martha Hopkins Keener. He lived most of his life in Rabun County. He died at Heritage Healthcare in Toccoa on May 8, 2012.

He attended Rabun County High School, graduating in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He retired from United Merchants, Clarkesville Mill, in 1980 after a car accident. He was a member of Black Rock Baptist Church, AARP and American Legion. He loved the Lord, his church, and his family, of whom he was deeply proud. He never met a stranger as he befriended everyone he met.

He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Cora York Underwood, his first wife, Jessie Carver Keener, and by his wife Sarah Mason Keener. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Nathan Bleckley; one granddaughter and husband, Jamie and Chad Nichols; one grandson and wife, Josh and Shannon Bleckley; two great-granddaughters, Taylor Bleckley and Joslan Nichols; two great-grandsons, Christopher and Daniel Bleckley; and one brother, Harry Keener. Also surviving are five stepdaughters, Sue Worley of Clayton, GA, Dale McConnell of Franklin, NC, Cathy Tippit, Alice Bradley, and Marilyn Hastings of Otto, NC; two stepsons, Harvey Hastings and Sam Hastings of Franklin, NC; 16 step-grandchildren, and many step-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday evening, May 11, 2012 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, May 12, 2012 in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Green and Rev. Phillip Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in Rabun Memory Park.
