Lucile H. Whiten

Obituary Date: Tuesday, May 1, 2012
Lucile H. Whiten, age 93, of Cornelia, Georgia passed away on Tuesday,
May 1, 2012.

Mrs. Whiten was born on June 15, 1918, in Stephens County, Georgia; a
daughter of the late Paul Monroe and Marjorie Belle Martin Holland.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, William Harold
Higgins and second husband, Morris Lee Whiten, brother, Avery Chaffin
Holland and brother-in-law, Ron Campbell. Mrs. Whiten was member of
the First Baptist Church of Cornelia for over 50 years, where she was
a member of the Volunteer Sunday School Class, and was active in the
Joe Benfield WMU and the Roundtable Group for many years. Mrs. Whiten
also volunteered at the Soup Kitchen for many years. She was a 1952
graduate of Piedmont College. Mrs. Whiten taught for 33 years in the
Habersham County School System beginning in 1946 at Mud Creek School.
She also taught at Hazel Grove, Fairview, and Cornelia during her
career, and taught in the Stephens County School System for 7 years.
Mrs. Whiten was a member of the Habersham Retired Educators
Association.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Sally Higgins,
Cornelia, GA; sister, Buena Faye Campbell, Austell, GA; sister and
brother-in-law, Grace and Grady Crowe, Madison, GA; three
grandchildren and spouses, Amy Higgins Hulsey and Keith, D. Higgins
and Sarah, and Hal Higgins and Fiancé' Jessica Johnston; four
great-grandchildren, Haley and Hayden Hulsey, and Aubrey and Mallory
Higgins.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday,
May 5, 2012 from First Baptist Church of Cornelia with Dr. Eric Spivey
officiating.

Private interment and graveside services will be held in Yonah
Memorial Gardens with Rev. Steve Doran officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6-8p.m., on Friday, May 4, 2012
at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to, First Baptist Church
Building Fund, P.O. Box 96, Cornelia, GA, 30531.
