Edwin Dean Westbrook

Edwin Dean Westbrook, age 62, of Alto, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at the Habersham Medical Center.
Mr. Westbrook was born on August 13, 1949, in Habersham County, Georgia; he was the son of Bernice Westbrook of Cornelia and the late John Ruben Westbrook. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bill "Bull" Westbrook, George T. Westbrook, and Dillard Westbrook and his father-in-law, Cohen Martin. He was the owner of Dean Westbrook Used Cars, which he founded in 1971. Mr. Westbrook was a member of the Cornelia Christian Church where he served as a deacon and he attended the Level Grove Baptist Church. Dean was passionate about his involvement with the Boy Scout Troop #24 and was also a past member of the Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge.
A 1969 graduate of South Habersham High School, Dean played on the Rebel football team and was highly recognized for his outstanding athletic abilities. He received the A-All State Football Award in 1968 and went on to play in the North-South All Star game in 1969. In 2004, Dean was inducted into the Habersham Ring of Honor.
He and Gail, his beloved wife of 41 years, loved to travel, work outdoors, and play with family pet, Maya and granddogs, Bailey, Archie, Monday, and Duke. Dean was the epitome of a great husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He adored his family and was so proud of their accomplishments. He was admired by all and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Gail Martin Westbrook, Alto, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Martin and Paula Westbrook, Alto, GA and Rick and Megan Westbrook, Beaverton, OR; sisters, Ruby Crunkleton and June Williams, both of Toccoa, GA and Mary Ann Hill, Cornelia, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Wayne Schroyer, Hollywood, GA and Bonnie and Phillip Cody, Cornelia, GA; brother, Oliver Westbrook, Clarkesville, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Kent and Diane Westbrook, Cornelia, GA; sister-in-law, Francine Westbrook, Alto, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bobby and Wilda Martin, Commerce, GA; mother-in-law, Virginia Martin, Alto, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the Level Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Rice, Rev. Brian James, David Terrell, Jerry Payne, and Rick Westbrook officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany Christian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel.
