Katherine Rebecca Jones

Katherine Rebecca Jones, age 96, of Clarkesville and formerly of Birmingham, Alabama died Wednesday, April 11, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 14, 2012 from the Clarkesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Butler officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 10:00 AM until the service. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama on Monday, April 16, 2012.

Born in Rome, Georgia on February 16, 1916, Ms. Jones was the daughter of the late Eugene R. and Annie Johnson Jones. Ms. Jones was a member of Clarkesville United Methodist Church where she was involved in the Kite Stribling Circle and she was previously a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church in Alabama for over 50 years. Ms. Jones had a long career as a steel worker for U S Steel in Birmingham. She was the first female to ever earn the position as a supervisor in the tin mill. Ms. Jones was a very loyal and dedicated employee. She took great pride in knowing that her dedication was greatly appreciated in the steel industries efforts of supporting a country in times of war and at peace. In addition to her parents, Ms. Jones is preceded in death by siblings Mattie O. Jones, L. Elizabeth Jones, and Dudley W. Jones, and niece Lynda J. McRae.

Survivors include nephew Russell Jones and wife Mary Ruth of Cleveland, great nephews Dallas McRae, Robert Jones, Patrick Jones, and Stephen Jones, great nieces Paige Crowley and husband Jim, Katie Jones, and Isabella Jones, and great great niece Erin Crowley.
