Gordon Adams, age 76, of Clarkesville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, following an extended illness.
Mr. Adams was born in Habersham County, Georgia on January 28, 1936, to the late Luther G. and Lassie Welborn Adams. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters Ruby Adams and Ruth Cabe, and a brother, Lamar Adams. Mr. Adams was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he and Martha enjoyed teaching the Toddlers Sunday School Class for 25 years. He was a Veteran, having served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Mr. Adams served on the Habersham Electric Membership Corporation Board of Directors for 27 years. He was a retired rural mail carrier with 25 years of service. Mr. Adams was formerly employed with Clarkesville Mill for over 20 years and was a Beef and Poultry Farmer for over 40 years. He was a Mason and a member of Clarkesville Lodge #325 F&A.M. and was a 32° Scottish Rite Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Waters Adams, of the home, daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ray Morrison, Clarkesville, GA, son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Donna Adams, Clarkesville, GA, sister and brother-in-law, Reba and Jimmy Childers, Loganville, GA; sister-in-law, LaMerle Edwards, Cleveland, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Inez Adams, Clarkesville, GA, John and Estelle Adams, Clarkesville, GA, and Branson and Lynn Adams, Cornelia, GA; brother-in-law, Nelson Cabe, Otto, NC; four grandchildren, Blake Adams, Emily Adams, Will Morrison, and Katie Morrison; a number of nieces and nephews, and caregivers, Joy Baker and Pam Lovell.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13, 2012, at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth McEntire and Rev. Tommy Stowe officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
