Howard T. Bailey

Mr. Howard T. Bailey, 85, of Toccoa, died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at his home.

Born February 6, 1927 in Stephens County, he was a son of the late Oris Converse and Ruth Vickery Bailey. He was the widower of Ruth West Bailey and was preceded in death by a daughter, Myra Bailey Payne and a son, Jerry Lee Bailey.

Mr. Bailey served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, was a master baker for 30 years in Ashville, N.C. and New York City. After returning to Toccoa, he was in the construction business for 20 years. He was a member and deacon of Mullins Ford Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Gloria (John) Tugman of Texas; sons, Terry (Jamie) Bailey, George (Linda) Bailey, Bob (Paula) Bailey, all of Toccoa and Bill (Terisa) Bailey of Danielsville; sisters, Hilda Camp and Jo (Ed) Elrod, Toccoa; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; cousin, Helen Clark Fowler of Marietta and other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at three o'clock Wednesday, March 28, 2012, from the chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Jack Gatlin and Mrs. Gloria Tugman officiating.

Burial followed in Mullins Ford Baptist Church Cemetery.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Honda Martin, Davis Smith, Brad Payne, David Tugman, Daniel Tugman and David Rider.

Whitlock Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
