Obituary Date: Thursday, March 22, 2012
Oscar Karl Weinmeister, Jr. died March 22, 2012 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center of complications from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, a disease he developed as a result of his service to his country in the Vietnam War from 1967-1968.

Karl was born in De Ridder, Lousiana, while his father was serving in the US Army at Camp Polk. His parents are Oscar Karl Weinmeister, Sr. (deceased) and Martha Phillips Weinmeister of Columbus, GA. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Cheryl Lambert Weinmeister of Dawsonville, GA; his son Oscar Karl Weinmeister, III, wife Amy, and their sons Jack (10) and Turner (8) of Burnsville, NC; his son Joseph Wilhelm Weinmeister, wife Michelle, and children Nathan (11), Cleo (9), and Karl John (4) of Athens, GA; sister Gail Weinmeister and her husband Ray Lessard of Fayettville, GA; brother Cleve Weinmeister of Cataula, GA; and his much beloved Deutsche Drathaar hunting dog, Elsa.

Karl and Cheryl were married in 1965 in Cumming, GA. After he served 3 years in the US Army Infantry in Korea and Vietnam, Karl attended Georgia State University where he earned his Master's Degree in Health Administration. He worked in various hospitals: at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA, Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, WV, and Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, GA. He retired in 2009 from Integris Health, based in Oklahoma City, as Managing Director for Rural Facilities, overseeing nine hospitals from Oklahoma towns Clinton, Yukon, Blackwell, Enid, Grove, Miami, Pryor, Madill, and Seminole. He was a mentor to many in Georgia and Oklahoma who entered the challenging career of healthcare administration.

Karl was a brave soldier on the battlefield and in every phase of his life. He was honest and stalwart in defense of right every day. He was a wonderful husband, best friend, father and grandfather. We will miss you always, Opa, and we will live our lives in honor of you.
