Idell Wofford Stringer

Obituary Date: Saturday, March 17, 2012
Idell Wofford Stringer, 96, of Gainesville, formerly of Clermont, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Bell Minor Home, surrounded by her loving children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur J. and Mary Parker Wofford; husbands Glyndon F. Howser and James A. Stringer; sisters Mary Lou Whelchel and Estell White; brother, John C. Wofford; granddaughter Stacie Barden, and son-in-law, Lewis B.Tate.

She was a member of New Bridge Baptist Church in Gainesville where she had been assistant organist. For many years she was organist and pianist at Friendship Baptist Church in White County. She began playing the organ at age 6, sitting in her father's lap while he pedaled a pump organ. As she grew up, she played the piano and sang in a trio with her sisters at her father's singing schools. At the time of her death, she attended Cool Springs Baptist Church.

She was one of five surviving graduates of Chattahoochee High School Class of 1933 in Clermont, Georgia, a secondary school of Mercer University. The school ceased to exist when Hall County set up a free high school program. She was also a graduate of Perry Business College.

She is survived by her daughters Mary Howser Barden ( Stanley), Joyce Howser Tate, Millie Howser Cleveland (Ralph) and Evelyn Howser Anderson (Curtis); grandchildren and spouses Geoff and Stephanie Barden Brock, Donald and Donna Cleveland, Dana and Jennifer Cleveland and Andy and Jennifer Anderson; brother-in-law John M. Stringer, sister-in-law Betty Wofford, 12 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Memorial Park North Riverside is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM Monday, March 19, 2012.

The funeral service will be held at North Riverside Chapel on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Milton Harris and the Reverend Ricky Stone officiating. Interment will be in the New Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Northeast Georgia Medical Center and Bell Minor Home for the kindness shown to our mother and family.
