Ruth Jackson Caldwell

Mrs. Ruth Jackson Caldwell, age 89, of Dahlonega, GA died Friday March 2, 2012 at Embracing Hospice in Cumming, GA.
Mrs. Caldwell was born in Young Harris, GA August 31, 1922. She had lived in Dahlonega since 1992 and was a former resident of Demorest, GA
Ruth was a dedicated educator. She taught in a one room schoolhouse in Gum Log (Towns County) and had to drive an Army Jeep to school because the roads were so muddy. She had to build a fire before the kids came to school. She taught in refurbished Army barracks at Hiawassee, GA in the early 50's. She spent many years teaching in Union County, Rabun County, and Habersham County. She worked at a defense plant during WWII. She loved Dahlonega and often said, "What a beautiful range of mountains was north of town."
Ruth was the daughter of the late Vester Jackson and Lola Souther Jackson and was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert "Buck" Caldwell; sisters, Elma Bryson and Adele Marie Lamb.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jackie Caldwell, Suwanee, GA; grandchildren, Troy and Clarissa Bradham; great-grandchildren, Journey, Luke, and Levi Bradham; special niece, Jackie Peabody; and several other nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A graveside funeral service is scheduled for 4 PM Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Yahoola Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.
Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Walton Peabody will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Monday from 2 PM until the time of the service.
