Edna Grizzle

Edna Shope Grizzle,96 of Gainesville passed away Monday, February 13, 2012 at New Horizons North following a period of extended illness.
Edna was born August 10, 1915 in Blairsville, GA to Arch Mance Shope and Maud Mason Shope. She was one of ten siblings. Edna was married to the late Reverend William Floyd Grizzle. Edna worked as a dedicated employee at New Holland Mill in Gainesville and retired after 30 years of service. She was also a current member of Northside Church of God.
Outside her employment, Edna was a devoted ministers wife and committed family member. She and her husband over the course of their marriage built and established three churches together. These churches include the Church of God in Ellijay, GA, Church of God in Dawsonville, GA and Northside Church of God in Gainesville, GA. As a dedicated church member and Sunday School teacher she also touched the lives of many individuals. Her love for children and compassion for others will continue to resonate and inspire lives in the future. Her life was truly a living testimony.
Edna is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, The Rev. Floyd Grizzle; her sisters, Ella Wilson, Ida Wilson, Edith Grizzle and Gertrude Holland and a brother, Wrestal Shope.
Survivors include her sisters, Blanche Keith of Murrayville; Vennie Graham of Gainesville and Verdell Jordan of Conyers; brother, Fred Shope, Gainesville. Although Edna and Floyd did not have biological children of their own, they were the caretakers of one son named Michael "Mickey" of Monroe. Mickey and his wife Kathy along with their five children and eleven grandchildren all reside in the Atlanta area.
Edna also leaves behind her a living legacy with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, special friends and extended church family members. She was a blessing in the lives of so many. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held Thursday February 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Little & Davenport Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ed Davenport and the Rev. J.D. Sosebee will officate. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday February 15, 2012 from 4-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m
