Weldon Doyle Causseaux
Obituary Date: Wednesday, February 1, 2012
Weldon Doyle Causseaux, 81, of Cumming, died on February 1, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay and Vaneta Causseaux, brother, Anthony Causseaux, sisters Annie Jo Shute and Wanda Hatton and his first wife, Mary Lou. Born in Ft, Worth, TX on April 24, 1930, Weldon followed his brother into the Navy after high school graduation, and served four years during the Korean War. It was during that time, that he decided to go into the ministry, and was ordained at the First Baptist Church of San Diego in 1953.
After his release from the military, he graduated from Baylor University (1956) with a Bachelor of Arts, and California Baptist Theological Seminary with a Bachelor of Divinity (1959), where he served as student body president. Covering a span of over forty years, he served churches in Hay Valley, TX; Covina and Long Beach, CA; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Cape Coral, FL; Huntingdon, England; East Point and Big Canoe, GA. He was devoted to his family and to the church congregations he served. His last full time ministry was at Dogwood Hills Baptist Church in East Point. During that time, the church decided to sell their building to Word of Faith Family Worship Center, and the congregations shared the facilities until Dogwood Hills closed in 1995. The congregation decided to invest the money from the sale of the church, and they designated ten groups, including Truett McConnell College, Southwest Christian Hospice, The Salvation Army, Georgia Baptist Children's Home and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship as recipients. Over the last twenty years, those organizations have benefited from the church's legacy. Weldon was instrumental in helping to establish the Unitrust.
He was exceptional in his pastoral care and his compassion touched the lives of those he met. He always found a way to help those in need, and saw the good in everyone. Weldon was an outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, boating, Tarpon fishing and golf. He also loved to travel, both in the United States and overseas. Even when the Alzheimer's deprived him of his memory, Weldon always had a smile and a greeting for everyone. His sweet, gentle personality was endearing, and he will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Davis Causseaux of Cumming; daughter, Mechele Cummins and husband Damon of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren Tyler Bridges and wife Sarah of Jesup, GA; Whitney Bridges Lister and husband John also of Tallahassee; Lee and wife Mary Cummins, Justin, Jessica and Danielle Cummins, of Crawfordville, FL and four great grandchildren.
