Mary Jeanette Moore Crunkleton Childs, age 93 of Kennesaw, GA, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Kindred Healthcare in Marietta, GA, and formerly of Toccoa.
Born on October 11, 1918 in Stephens County, she was a daughter of the late William Hunter and Mary Elizabeth Terrell Moore. Mrs. Childs was a member of Hill Street Baptist Church in Toccoa, GA, a member of Ladies Auxillary of the Toccoa VFW Post 4346 and a Daughter of the American Confederacy. She was a bookkeeper and cashier for Colonial/Big Star Food Store where she retired after thirty-five years of service.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Tyrus Childs; son, Jim Crunkleton; infant daughter, Joyce Murlene Crunkleton; step-daughter, Juanita Suttles; granddaughter, Kimberly Ruddell Holcombe; three sisters, Ila Todd, Ollie Smith and Marie Ward; brothers Odis and Donald Moore.
Survivors include a step-son, Bruce Childs of Toccoa; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Ed Ruddell of Kennesaw; daughter-in-law, Brenda Crunkleton of Mt. Airy; brother, J.C. Moore of Gainesville; sister, Gertrude Cook of Smyrna; grandchildren, Susan and Allen Ivester of Toccoa, Ken Crunkleton of Mt. Airy, and Edward and Ashley Ruddell of Acworth; nine great grand children, five great-great grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren.
She was totally devoted to her family and faced life's challenge with grace and optimism.
Memorial services will be held at 3 pm Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Paul Garrison and Rev. Jerrell Beatty officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-3 pm on Saturday prior to the service.
