Faye Youmans Richards

Obituary Date: Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Beloved best friend, wife, mother, and grandmother Faye Youmans Richards of Cumming, GA. passed away on January 24, 2012 with family at her side.

Faye leaves behind her husband of 50 years John R. Richards, daughter, Shay Brasher and husband Jon Brasher, daughter Ginger Breyo and her husband Jason, four grandsons, whom she loved dearly, Brooks Brasher, Garrett Brasher, Harrison Breyo and Grant Breyo.

Faye was born on November 9, 1941 and was raised in Waycross, GA. She was the daughter of Harry Franklin Youmans and Cora Gillis Youmans.

Faye leaves behind cousins Harvey, Betty Jean and Vicky Rawlins, Bill and Downing Bennett, and Aunt Lula Grover also of Waycross and Jeannie and David Thompson of Lawrenceville, GA. She also leaves her sister in law, Alice Oosterhoudt of Dalton, GA and nephews Jim Oosterhoudt of Brisbane, QLD, Australia and Geoff Oosterhoudt of Atlanta, GA. Faye was very close to her cousins in Atlantic Beach, FL. Adelaide Richards Tucker, Kenneth G. Richards, Jeane Richards, Kenneth J. Richards, Laura Richards Johnson and Husband Kevin Johnson, and Jody Richards Oliveros.

Faye graduated from Waycross High School, South Georgia College in Douglas, GA and the University of Georgia where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Faye taught Elementary school in Jacksonville, FL, Knoxville, TN and Lookout Mountain, GA. For the last 25 years Faye taught in Gwinnett County at Brookwood Elementary School, and was currently employed as a Reading Specialist at Riverside Elementary School. She touched the lives of many children and families. Her uncanny ability to teach reading created a love of learning for her students. Faye acquired lifelong friends with many of her teaching associates.

The family will receive friends and family at visitation at McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory in Cumming, GA. on Saturday, January 28th at 2:30 PM. Faye was a member of Cumming First United Methodist Church and a private family Memorial Service will be held. Donations may be made to Riverside Elementary School for the establishment of a Literacy Fund in memory of Faye Richards.
