Marlon W. Houston

Marlon W. Houston, 90, of Orlando, Florida passed away Tuesday January 24, 2012 at his residence following a period of declining health.

Born January 17, 1922 in Colquitt, Georgia to the late Samuel W. and Birdie Houston, he had lived in Florida since 1968. Mr. Houston entered the U. S. Army in 1940 and retired in 1971. He was a survivor of the bombing of Pearl Harbor and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He also served during the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam. Mr. Houston was a recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. After his military retirement he worked as a master carpenter and furniture maker. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Port St. John, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Vandiver Houston, a brother and four sisters.

Surviving are his daughters and son in law, Wanda and Jake Rogers, Titusville, FL, Wendy Brownyard, Orlando, FL; son, Michael V. Houston, Cocoa, FL; four grandchildren and three great grandsons.

Funeral services will be held Saturday January 28, 2012 at 3 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
