Edmond F. Jared, Sr., age 91 of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his sleep, January 20, 2012 at his residence.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 11:30 am Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Alta Vista Cemetery with the Reverend Richard Evans officiating. Also on Wednesday January 25, 2012a celebration of Mr. Jared's life will be held at the Chattahooch3ee Country Club from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. All friends are invited.
Mr. Jared proudly served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, as a command pilot flying The Hump between India and China. He continued his military career, serving in the Air Force Reserves until his retirement in 1963.
Mr. Jared moved to Gainesville, Georgia in 1946 and operated the Riverbend Airport and Jared Flying Service with his friend and fellow Hump pilot, Ben Epps.
Mr. Jared was very active in civic affairs pertaining to Gainesville and served as President of the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce. He then became corporate pilot for the J.D. Jewell Company and also worked in sales for the company. This led to a storied career in selling poultry products to military resale activities around the world. This chapter in his life spanned over 40 years and concluded with his retirement from Tyson Foods in 1993.
He is predeceased by his loving wife, Charlotte Celeste (Harrell) Jared, to whom he was married for over 60 years; and his parents, Marvin Wilcox Jared and Lucille (Feris) Jared. He is survived by Ed Jr., Nan Powell, Jerry (Judy), David (Denise), 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Ed is his loving companion, Shirley Bitting.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ed's memory to the Northeast Georgia History Center at 322 Academy Street., NW, Gainesville, Georgia 30501.
