Richard (Dick) Stephen Andert, 70, of Gainesville passed away on January 12, 2012 at his home following almost four years of battle with kidney cancer with his wife at his side.
Funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday, January 19 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church in Gainesville. A funeral luncheon will follow in the social hall. Mr. Andert will be inurned at Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Pastor Rev. Jaime Barona & Father Vincent Sullivan will officiate.
Mr. Andert was born March 1, 1941 in St. Paul, Minnesota and was the son of the late Ade and Irene Andert. He graduated from Aitkin High School in Aitkin, MN. After high school, he attended St. Cloud State University for two years until the selective service called him to military duty. He served two years in the Army assigned to the NATO Strategic Command in Germany
Mr. Andert had an entrepreneur spirit that led him to create numerous businesses throughout his life. Most notable was being one of the founding fathers of the aquatic amusement industry. Mr. Andert operated businesses in Atlanta & Gainesville. He began his career in fiberglass water slide industry in the late 70's and continued till his death.
Mr. Andert was a parishioner of the St. Michael Catholic Church, a member of the Gainesville Rotary Club and a member of IAAPA
