Martha Millar, longtime resident of Gainesville and North Georgia died December 30, 2011, in her home, on her 54th birthday after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, "ALS," "Lou Gehrig's Disease."
Martha was born December 30, 1957, in Winter Garden, Florida, moved to Collegedale, Tennessee, and was educated at Collegedale Academy. She spent the rest of her life in Georgia.
Before her marriage, Martha worked for the McKee Baking Company ("Little Debbie") for 13 years. After moving to Atlanta she created and managed her own residential cleaning company. She later became certified as a Real Estate agent and was member of the Hall County Board of Realtors, working for Savage Real Estate, Coldwell Banker, and Re-Max. She was recognized among the top producers in Hall County for several years. Most recently she was employed by The Gap in managing one of their an Old Navy Stores at the Forum in Atlanta.
She was active in several charitable organizations including service on the Board of Trustees of the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra. She also frequently enjoyed mentoring and reading to children in the Hall County School system. She attended First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville.
Funeral arrangements are for January 2, 2012 at Memorial Park Funeral Home North, Riverside Chapel, 989 Riverside Drive, N.E., Gainesville, Georgia, 30506, and include Family Visitation at the Riverside Chapel at 6:00 PM and a Memorial Service at 7:00 PM.
She was preceded in death by her father James Forrest Bowden. She is survived by her mother, Angelina Cortez Bowden, sister and brother -in-law Mary Jane and Dr. Phil Stover of Mobile, Alabama, daughters Jessica Kacvenski of Iowa City, Iowa, Hannah Taylor Millar of Atlanta, and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
