Don Dean King

Obituary Date: Tuesday, December 27, 2011
Don Dean King, age 87 of Oakwood, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Bell-Minor Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Memorial services are scheduled for Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Washington Street in Gainesville. Reverend Calvin Haney will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 29, 2011 in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the service.

Don, a loving husband, father and grandfather has gone home to be with his Lord. Through his Christian faith he lived a fulfilling and rewarding life. He was a selfless man giving to his family, community and country. Don was a graduate of Georgia Tech with degrees in Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. After serving in the U.S. Army in WWII, Don met his soon-to-be wife of 60 years, Emily. He enjoyed an engineering career at Westinghouse Electric Corp, Leece-Neville, and Emerson Electric. Don gave back to his community in numerous ways, he was a leader at St. Paul for 40 years, and a founding member of the Lake Lanier Obedience Club. After retiring from the engineering industry, Mr. King and worked with the children of Gainesville City Schools. Don enjoyed the outdoors and trips to the mountains with his family.

Mr. King was born July 15, 1924 in Massillon, Ohio to the late Clifford Roy King and Gladys Stilgenbauer King and was brother to Jack King and the late Richard King.

Mr. King is survived by his wife, Emily King of Oakwood, sons & daughters-in-law, Jeff & Gail King of Lewisville, Texas and Jon & Becky King of Dallas, Georgia, daughter & son-in-law, Jill & Dan Childs of Rome, Georgia, brother & sister-in-law, Jack & Mary King of California, sister-in-law, Claire King of Ohio, grandchildren & their spouses, Jared & Sarah Brown and Ryan & Heather Brown.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Don King to St. Paul United Methodist Church 404 Washington Street, Gainesville, GA 30501.
