Jack Harrison Barnett
Obituary Date: Thursday, December 15, 2011
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2012 in the chapel of Gainesville First United Methodist Church for Mr. Jack Harrison Barnett, 84, of Gainesville, who passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2011 following an extended illness. The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home on Sunday December 18, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Rev. Dr. Terry Walton will officiate.
Born December 17, 1926 in Atlanta GA, he was the son of the late Leon Lafoy and Loula Upshaw Barnett. He was a member of Gainesville First United Methodist Church, a member of the American Legion. He was in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was an owner and operator of Barnett Advertising in Atlanta for 42 years.
Mr. Barnett was a member of Trout Unlimited and was well known all over the US and Canada as Garman Jack where he invented the Hookless Gar Lure.
Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife of 66 years, Louise M. Barnett of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Brown of Marietta, granddaughter, Catherine Humphrys of Cornelia; great grandchildren, Kim Pittman and Keith Little of Cornelia; brother, Leon L. and Barnett, Jr. of Smyrna and several nieces and nephews.
