Mr. Clarence Templeton Hawkins, age 78, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2011 at The Bell Minor Home following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with interment to follow in Alta Vista Cemetery. The Reverend Calvin Haney will officiate. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, December 12, 2011 at the funeral home.
Mr. Hawkins was born July 31, 1933 in Gainesville, GA and was the son of the late Wyatt Gaines Hawkins and Lorena (Tyner) Hawkins. He was an active member of St. Paul UMC on Washington Street, where he was also a member of the Anglers Willing Worker Sunday School Class for over 20 years. He also volunteered with the children at Central Baptist Church of Gainesville, GA. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Georgia Department of Labor after 34 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Joe and Jessie Durham Chandler.
Mr. Hawkins is survived by his loving wife, Joanne (Chandler) Hawkins; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and John Mark Carpenter of Gainesville; nephew and wife, Dr. James and Carmen Pope of Carrollton; niece and husband, Patti and J.J. Roberts of Duluth; nephew and wife, Mark and Marti Carpenter of Dallas, GA; niece and husband, Nancy and Tommy Hulsey of Gainesville; niece and husband, Kim and Steve Abrams of Lula; niece and husband, Barbara and Jeff Clement of Wendell, NC; and nephew and wife, Chris and Janice Carpenter of Hawthorne, FL; 13 great-nieces and nephews; 19 great-great-nieces and nephews.
