HELEN POOLE HAWKINS, BETTER KNOWN AS "GRANDMA HELEN," age 90, of Demorest, Georgia, formerly of Gainesville, Georgia went to her heavenly home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, December 6, 2011.
Grandma Helen was born in Hall County, Georgia on April 24, 1921, to the late William Henry and Amanda Hawkins Poole. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest "Lit" Hawkins, brother, Henry Boyd Poole, sisters, Nellie Poole Hawkins, Edna Poole McEntire, and infant sister, Dixie Poole.
Grandma Helen was a life-long member of the Timber Ridge Baptist Church, was a very hard worker and a good Christian woman. She influenced the lives of many in her family, church, and community. Grandma Helen was also a very loving sister, mother, and grandmother. A void has been left here for the ones who loved her most. Through her testimony, we know that when we all get to Heaven we will be with Grandma longer than we will be without her here on earth. Grandma's memory will be in our hearts forever.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Charles McEntire, Clarkesville, GA and Linda and Gary McEntire, Demorest, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Richard Miller, Lula, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Billy and Marie Poole, Gainesville, GA, Ed and Patsy Poole, Warner Robins, GA and Ben and Myrlon Poole, Lula, GA; grandchildren, Rev. Kenneth and Kay McEntire, Demorest, GA, Lynn and Dean Biegeleisen, Jefferson, GA, Billy and Julia McEntire, Lula, GA, Lisa and Randy Barrett, and Kimberly McEntire, all of Demorest, GA; great-grandchildren, Kasey and Natasha McEntire, Kolby and Brittany McEntire both of Demorest, GA, Tyler and Breezi McEntire, Baldwin, GA, Seth McEntire, Lula, GA, and Robby Barrett, Demorest, GA; great-great-grandchildren, Blair McEntire and Payton McEntire, both of Demorest, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011, from the Timber Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Poole, Rev. Kenneth McEntire, and Rev. Alvin Burns officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. on Friday, at the South Chapel in Baldwin.
