Rev. Wilburn E. Peeples

Rev. Wilburn E. Peeples age 91 of Gainesville passed away Tuesday Nov. 29, 2011 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.

Rev. Peeples was born May 3, 1920 in Eatonton, Georgia to the late J.A. & Ada Stowe Peeples. Rev. Peeples served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a retired baptist minister who pastored several churches in the Hall County area, including Zion Hill Baptist Church, Woodlawn Baptist and Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Gainesville where he taught Sunday school.

Rev. and Mrs. Peeples were happily married for seventy-one years. Until he was admitted to the hospital, the only time he and Mrs. Peeples had spent apart was during his WWII service in the Navy. Rev. Peeples was revered and loved by the community. As a pastor, he performed hundreds of weddings and funerals. Always ready with a kind word or a clean joke, Rev. Peeples was a source of joy and comfort to everyone who knew him. Whether a member of his congregation, a friend or a family member, those who had the opportunity to brush paths with him in this world were indeed better for it. He knew how to love well and was well loved in return.

Survivors include wife, Willonell Yopp Peeples of Gainesville, son & daughter in law, Jim & Cecelia Peeples of Cumming, daughter & son in law, Vicki & Tony Edmonds of Gainesville, grandsons & wives, Rodney & Holly Peeples of Toccoa, Greg & Gerry Peeples of Toccoa, granddaughters & husbands, Jennifer & Josh Carter of Villa Rica, Amy & Clarke Barton of Oxford, Mississippi, sister & brother in law, Betty & Bill Dale of Clermont, sisters in law, Margaret Peeples of Clermont, Opal Peeples of Gainesville, eight great grandchildren and a number of nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Central Baptist Church, Friday, December 2nd at 2:00. Local ministers are invited to be honorary pallbearers and should be at Central at 1:30.

Visitation at Memorial Park Funeral Home is scheduled for Thursday, December 1st from 2-4:00 and from 6-8:00. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
