Frances King Yager

Obituary Date: Sunday, November 20, 2011
Frances King Yager (94) of Sun City Center, died Nov. 20, 2011. She was born in Woodland, GA, the daughter of Margaret Gay King and Moscow Harold King. She received degrees from Andrew Junior College in Cuboth, GA, Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA, and the University of Georgia, Athens, GA. She began her teaching career in Jonesborough, GA. She was hired by then Superintendent of Schools, Charles Yager, whom she subsequently married. Their long and happy marriage of 69 years ended with Charles's death in 2010.

She is survived by two daughters: Margaret Dufeny (Max) of Tampa, FL, and Virginia Baxley (Robert) of Birmingham, AL; 4 grandchildren: Mark Dufeny of Coral Gables, FL, Charles Dufeny of Tampa, Julia Camp (John) of Birmingham and Frances Atighi (Maz) of Crown Point, NM; 4 great grandchildren: Anabel Camp, Ben Camp, Owen Dufeny, and Razi Atighi; and two sisters, Elizabeth Rice (William) of Dalton, GA and Jean Kennedy of Barnesville, GA.

Frances and Charles were married in 1941 and made their home in Dahlonega, GA, where Frances taught third grade for many years; she ended her teaching career in the gifted program. She was a member of the Dahlonega United Methodist Church and active in the community. She worked to bring about a needed expansion of the regional library. Favorite pastimes were travel, reading, and, most of all, bridge. In her retirement she took up golf and shared many golfing holidays with Charles. In 1994 Frances moved with Charles to Sun City Center, FL. They made many friends and relished retirement. She was a member of the Sun City Center United Methodist Church. As a resident of the Freedom Plaza Community, she became active in the library committee and joined several bridge groups.

A memorial service will be held at the Dahlonega Methodist Church on Dec. 17, 2011, at 1:00. Memorial contributions may be made to LifePath Hospice, the Alumni Fund at North Georgia College and State University, or to the Freedom Plaza Scholarship Fund.
