Frances Daniel Hammond

Obituary Date: Saturday, November 5, 2011
Frances Daniel Hammond, 94 years young, passed away from us here on earth and into God's eternal heavenly home on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

She was a loving wife and mother, passionate about life, and strong in her commitment to seek God's will for her life each and every day, and carry out His will with strength and courage, even when circumstances were difficult.

As a widow in her late forties, she learned to drive a car for the first time and went to night school to train to be a bookkeeper to support herself.
She bought her first home and car and was firm in her resolve to earn her own way, which she did very successfully. She loved being able to work, and when she retired from working as a bookkeeper for the Webb's convenience store chain in Valdosta at the age of 79, she starting working for Sears, where she worked for eleven years until her retirement from Sears at the age of 90.

She was a long-time and dedicated member of Greenwood Baptist Church in Valdosta, Georgia, where she served for several years as treasurer, and was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class, whose members she regarded as true sisters as well as Sisters in Christ.

She is survived by her son Lyman "Johnny" Hammond and daughter-in-law, Patricia Anne, who live in Gainesville, Georgia. Following hip surgery in 2009, Frances moved to Gainesville to live at the Dogwood Forest Assisted Living Facility. She is also survived by her beloved niece, Madeleine Doran, and her great-nephew, Michael Doran; her brothers and sisters in Christ at Greenwood Baptist Church; and those in the Williams family she regarded as grandchildren and who lovingly knew her as "Grandma Frances": Evan Williams, Blake Blakeford, Blair Williams, Taylor Williams, and Drew Williams Armstrong; sister-in-law Nikki Daniel, and niece Sandra Marshall; and nieces and nephews of her pre-deceased brothers J. T. Daniel and Leslie Daniel. She is also pre-deceased by her sister, Doris Dimant, from Fort Myers, Florida .

Graveside services will be held on Sunday November 6,2011 at 4:00 p.m.
at Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville, Ga.
