Jerome M. "Jerry" Beck

Jerome M. "Jerry" Beck, 78, of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday November 1, 2011 at Northside Forsyth Hospital following a sudden illness.

Born June 11, 1933 in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Garrett and Olive Beck, he lived in Decatur, GA for 30 years before moving to Dawson County 15 years ago. Mr. Beck received a Pharmacy degree from Perdue University and a law degree from John Marshall Law School. He was a U. S. Army veteran and worked as a sales representative for Abbott Laboratories for over 30 years after which he assisted in the opening of the pharmacy at Fred's in Dawsonville. Jerry was a member of the South Dekalb Rotary Club, transferred to the Dawson County Rotary Club, achieved over 30 years of perfect attendance and served as a former president of the Dawson County club. He was active in the Dawson County Mentoring Program for many years. An avid golfer, for many years in Dekalb County he coached youth football, baseball, and his favorite sport, basketball. Jerry continued to coach youth basketball in Dawson County and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Nancy Beck, Dawsonville; children, Richard and Cathy Beck, Morrow, Mickey and Penny Beck, McDonough, Roxy and Kelly Thomley, Newnan; grandchildren, Candice Beck, Dustin Beck, Sarah Beck, Garrett Beck, Savannah Thomley, Matthew Thomley; and a great grandson, Ean Marria.

Funeral services will be held Friday November 4, 2011 at 11 o'clock at Bethel United Methodist Church. Dr. Orin Sampson will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
