John David Oliver, Jr., resident of Cleveland, GA. and Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2011 in Gainesville, GA.
John was born on April 11, 1938 in Closter, New Jersey. He enlisted in the US Army in 1958 and achieved the rank of E5 before being honorably discharged in 1961 and relocating to Miami, FL. He began his career at Martin Memorial Medical Center in 1966 as a lab technician. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of South Florida in 1974 and an MBA from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1980.
John received several promotions and retired from Martin Memorial as Vice President in 1994. In 2000 he became Vice President of Mariner's Hospital in Tavernier, FL. and retired again in 2007. In addition, he served as President of Catholic Charities of Palm Beach on two occasions.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Connie, parents Lillian and John, Sr. and his sister, Lorraine Pittenger.
He is survived by his wife, Ginger; children Christopher (Bobbie), Thomas (Nicole) and Tracy Henderson (Don), grandchildren Brittany Henderson, Brandon Henderson, Tyler Henderson, Michael Oliver and Justin Zessin. He is also survived by his brother, Robert (Gail Barron Oliver) and brother-in-law Donald Pittenger.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church. The Father Thad Rudd will officiate.
