Gregory Scott Eggleton
August 9, 1962 to October 23, 2011
This is in memory of Gregory S. Eggleton. In an effort to tell you of the fine man I knew and loved. Words fail me to truly describe the kind of man Greg was. His kindness, generosity, compassion, selflessness, all seems too little. He always tried to go the extra mile for everyone. After only 14 years of marriage, I find it hard to sum him up in only a few words. His love and compassion toward his family was never ending. He worked hard to raise his son to be 'a man of his word', and lived it before him everyday. Though to some he seemed bold and brash at times, there was hardly ever a harsh word from him. His strength and character touched everyone he met. Few men in this world will ever measure up to the man I knew and loved.
Greg worked hard to achieve goals set for himself. After graduating from Johnson High School in 1980 he immediately entered the Air Force, a life long ambition of his. With a great desire to serve others and to help those in need he always directed his life to this goal. As an EMT, Deputy, Volunteer Fireman, and Security Guard, His time was always spent giving to others to try to help those in need. He spent years and countless hours as a volunteer in the Gainesville Chapter of The American Red Cross, serving in any capacity needed, from team leader to errand boy, his deep hearted goal was to give always, help those who felt helpless, and touch lives always for the better. Even as he worked at AutoZone as a member of the management team his drive to serve and help others was apparent with every customer. He loved his job, and felt he had never served his customer honestly if he hadn't given his all and helped them fix their problem, not just buy parts.
I met Greg in Peachtree Windows and Doors in Gainesville . We had spent our whole lives growing up not far from each other, him in Tucker and me in Stone Mountain , but having never met. Unknown to the both of us we had traveled all across the United States to the same places and never met. In 1988 we met for the first time over an assembly line. His character and charm filled the whole room, and for us our world would never be complete without each other. It took 7 years for us to meet a second time, and we were married in 1997. A world that just seemed perfect was only blessed even more with the birth of our son in 2002. The love and compassion, kindness and generosity only shined even brighter in Greg as he now lived the example he felt he should live in front of his son.
At only nine years old Greg's son is a shining example of all the best part's of Greg. Benjamin is a fine example of Greg's spirit and compassion, his determination and respect for responsibility. He truly has his fathers' heart.
As his wife, I find it hard to find all the right words to honor him. Greg loved the Lord, his family and his country. In 14 years of marriage he never failed me once, not once. A strong man from the inside out, he carried a lot on his strong shoulders, and never complained, not even once.
There is a hole in the universe that will never be filled again. The world was a much better place with Greg in it, and his family, friends, and all who knew him will never be the same without him.
Gregory Scott Eggleton passed away on Sunday October 23, 2011 at 4:00am from a massive heart attack. He was preceded in death by his Father Richard Eggleton. He is survived by his wife Melissa, his son Benjamin in Homer, GA, and his mother Gloria Eggleton of Flowery Branch, GA. and many nieces, nephews and cousins. May God give us all just a small piece of Greg's character to make it through these days ahead. God blessed me with the gift of Greg and his love, nothing will ever be the same again.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00p.m. Wednesday October 26, 2011 in the Ward's Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor David Carithers will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00pm to 5:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the funeral home.
