Walter Reed Ballew

Graveside services for Walter Reed Ballew, age 69, of Cornelia, will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from the Hillside Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Clarkesville. The Reverend Julia Rautenberg and special family friend Brandy Thomas will officiate with full military honors provided by the United States Navy Military Honors Funeral Team. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Ballew died on Monday, October 17, 2011 following an extended illness at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Mr. Ballew was born in Demorest, Georgia on July 10, 1942. He was a member of Bethesda Fellowship Congregational Holiness Church of Cornelia. He was a United States Navy Veteran having served on the USS Ticonderoga.

Mr. Ballew was the son of the late Ellis R. Ballew and the late Violet Webb Ballew. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Tommy Lee Ballew.

Survivors include his wife Zebbie Loudermilk Ballew of Cornelia, daughter Karen B. McCallister of Cornelia, son Walter reed Ballew, Jr. of Clarkesville, sisters Ramona B. Stowe of Demorest and Marcheta B. O'Kelley of Bluffton, South Carolina. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
