Mrs. Evelyn McDuffie Cronic, 85 of Lula died Sunday, October 9, 2011.
Born in the New Bethel Community of Franklin County, Georgia, Mrs. Cronic was the daughter of the late Edgar Zalmon and Trudie Sewell McDuffie. Mrs. Cronic lived for 57 years in Banks County in the Hickory Flat Community where she raised a family of three boys and one daughter. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a B.S. degree in Home Economics, and she also attended Piedmont College. During her college career, she was a member of the Who's Who of American Colleges and Universities. Mrs. Cronic was a school teacher in both Lula High School and Banks County High School during her lifetime. In 1962, she was selected as the 9th District Homemaker of the Year and was a member of the Hickory Flat Women's Club. Mrs. Cronic was an excellent seamstress and a skilled homemaker who loved cooking, being outdoors, watching birds, and working in her beautiful flower garden.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the Wilbanks Country Living Personal Care Home, Brenda Wilbanks, Misty Minish and Ann Lambert. Mrs. Cronic spent the final three years of her life under the loving attention and care of these ladies; their selfless efforts have truly been a blessing and comfort to both the family and Mrs. Cronic.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Eddie Payne, who live in Spartanburg, S.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sue Cronic, from Toccoa; and Steve and Shanna Cronic, from Gainesville; son, Philip Cronic, from Lula; grandchildren, Andrew Cronic, Anna Cronic, Luke Payne, Blake and Elyse Vandiver, Holly and Andy Bales; and great grandchildren, Andrew and Addison Bales. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Hazel McDuffie of Carnesville, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families.
Mrs. Cronic is preceded in death by her husband, The Rev. G.A. "Lefty" Cronic.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday October 12, 2011, in the Little & Davenport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery in Lula. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday October 11, 2011 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
