Mary Meeks Smelley

Mary "Jurelle" Meeks Smelley, age 94, of Lula, GA, passed away Friday, October 07, 2011 at Northridge Medical Center.

Born in Banks County on January 02, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Mel and Mae Pritchett Meeks. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Morris and Mildred Sims and a granddaughter, Torrey Smelley.

Mrs. Smelley was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Lula, where she sang in the choir and was a Sunday School member. She was also a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, gardening, farm work, and going to church.

Survivors include husband, Hugh Smelley of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Joyce Smelley of Lula; granddaughter and husband, Shanda and Justin Lott of Lula; brother and sister-in-law, Ferd and Betty Meeks of Lula.

Funeral services are 3:00 pm Sunday, October 09, 2011 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Lula, with Rev. James Duncan, Rev. Phil Parks and Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Saturday.
