Hazel Lewallen Smith

Hazel Lewallen Smith, age 83, of Baldwin, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Mrs. Smith was born on September 28, 1927, in Banks County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Bertie Creasmon Lewallen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. "Bill" Smith and her daughter, Ellen Lewallen. Mrs. Smith was formerly employed with Carwood Manufacturing Company for a number of years and was also a poultry farmer with Fieldale Farms for a number of years. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Edward Kelley, Baldwin, GA; sons, Don Smith, Turnerville, GA and Harry Smith, Baldwin, GA; brother and sister-in-law, John A. and Myrtle Lewallen, Baldwin, GA; brother, Roddy Watkins, Iva, SC; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia with Rev. Terrell Simmons and Rev. Paul Bryson officiating. Interment will follow in Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel.
