Charles L. Davis
Obituary Date: Tuesday, September 20, 2011
Retired US Army Staff Sergeant, Charles L. "Sarge" Davis, age 78 of Mt. Airy, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Habersham County Medical Center.
Born in Habersham County on October 22, 1932, he was the son of the late James Portman and Lizzie Mae Meaders Davis. SSgt retired from the United States Army with over 20 years of dedicated service including service during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was highly decorated having received various medals including, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Korean Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, American Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and the Clarkesville Masonic Lodge #325 F. & A.M. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening but most of all spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Johnson Davis; brothers, Roy, Lloyd and David Davis; sister, Betty Gibson; and grandson, James Kevin Webb.
Survivors include sons, Ted Davis of Tallapoosa and Jeffrey L. Holbrook of Clarkesville; daughters, Deborah Densmore of Clarkesville, Lisa Holbrook Oliver of Mt. Airy and Karen Holbrook Webb of Hollywood; brother, Donald Davis of Clarkesville; sisters, Glenda Howard of Clarkesville and Frances Francis of Bethlehem; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2:00 pm Friday, September 23, 2011, at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Cashion officiating. Interment will follow in the VFW Memorial Park with full military honors provided by the United States Army.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 pm on Thursday, September 22, 2011.
