Evelyn Varnell Richards

Evelyn Varnell Richards, age 78, of Cumming, passed away Monday, September 19, 2011. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and a Past Grand Matron of Georgia. She loved the piano and played it all of her life. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Padgett and her brother, Loyal "Joe" Padgett.

Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, Lanier Richards; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie (Deb-o) and Rickey Spruill of Alpharetta; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Sara Padgett of Cumming, Rev. Bobby and Betty Padgett of Ball Ground; sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Robert Scoggins of Canton; sister-in-law, Bonnie Ruth Padgett of Cumming; nieces and nephews that were like her own children, Stacey, Katey Rose and Joshua Goss; special friend, Penny Crothers and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 22, at 2:00 p.m. at New Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Gerral Richards, Rev. Bobby Padgett, Mr. L.O. Cox Jr. and Rev. Johnny Purcell officiating. Interment will follow in New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until hour of service at the funeral home. Members of the Eastern Star will serve as Honorary Escorts for the service.
