Evelyn Reu Hawkins

Mrs. Evelyn Reu Hawkins, 88 of Gainesville died Saturday August 6, 2011 at her residence.

A native of Elizabeth, New Jersey, Mrs. Hawkins was the daughter of the late William and Mary Kransfield Reu. She had lived in Gainesville since 1946. She, along with her late husband, B.L. Hawkins owned and operated Hawkins Plumbing Company in Gainesville for a number of years where she served as Vice-President and CFO. She was a very active member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church on Washington Street,where she had served as a former sunday school teacher, active in the UMW, member of the Anglers Sunday School Class, and attended FLOW for a number of years at St. Paul. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi, Eastern Star, ladies auxillary of the American Legion Post #7, and had served as a troop leader with the Girls and Boy Scouts, and also was a member of the Red Hat ladies. She also was active with the Day Friendship Circle at St. Paul.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law; Marie and Larry Merritt, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law; Dr. & former state senator Lee and Sharon Hawkins, Gainesville; grandchildren; Dr. Ben and Suzie Hawkins, Elizabeth Hawkins; Jim & Charlie Hawkins, all of Gainesville; Merilynn and Jordan Woodfin, Hobbs, New Mexico; Megan Merritt, Gainesville; Martin Merritt, Atlanta; Nora Chafin, Atlanta; Michelle and Russell Blanchard, New York; Meredith Chafin, Lawrenceville and Bo Wren, Gainesville; great grandchildren; Anne Hawkins, Bennie Hawkins and Jane Hawkins, all of Gainesville.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday August 8, 2011 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church on Washington Street. The Rev. Calvin Haney will officiate. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Little & Davenport Funeral Home, Sunday August 7, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
