Thomas Eugene Curry

Obituary Date: Thursday, July 28, 2011
October 5, 1927, Tom was born in Hamilton, KS, to parents Thomas Preston Curry (1899-1958) and Clara Irma Manis Curry (1905-1999). He passed away at his home, 3103 Columns Drive, Cumming, GA, 30041, Thursday, July 28, 2011.

He was raised in the farming country and loved nature, the beauty and life God gave him, hunting , fishing, traveling (21 years motor homing throughout the lower 48, especially Florida, the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf, and Alaska). Seventeen years during the Alaska summers made possible fantastic salmon and halibut (caught a 750 pounder) fishing. Being a resident of Alaska because of property ownership, the AK car tag gave him opportunities to share his love of Alaska with so many curious people.

During World War II years, he and his family (with sister Clara Louise Curry Davies (1936) lived and worked on the war ships near Sonoma, CA, where he graduated from high school. Three years plus in the U.S. Army/ U.S. Air Force (stationed in Germany) made college possible, and it was where he met and married Sally Jo Pyle formerly of Hoxie and Reading, KS. They were blessed to have been married nearly 60 years (August 12,1951) and raised five wonderful children: Nelson George Curry (1952) of Atchison, KS, Niles Preston Curry (1953) of Troutman, NC, Noel Thomas Curry (1956) of Tokyo, Japan, Andrea Denise Curry Brown (1958) and Nathan Charles Curry (1959) both of Woodstock, GA. They were fortunate to have lovely daughter-in-laws, Janet Rea Weston Curry of Troutman, NC and Gilda Grace Gooding Curry of Woodstock, GA and a special son-in-law, Walter Swayne Brown of Woodstock, GA; plus 14 grandchildren (3 by marriage) and 2 great grandsons.

Tom was a "people person" which developed during college, Emporia, KS, State Teachers College and then when he was a KS Blue Cross-Blue Shield representative and as a senior agent with the life and health insurance companies: Union Central, Bankers Life, and Principal Financial Group.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Toms name would be welcome at Soldotna, AK, United Methodist Church, 158 S. Binkley, Soldotna, Alaska, 99669 or Hospice, Forsyth County Georgia, Cumming, GA 30041
