Barbara Pritchard Christian

Barbara Pritchard Christian, age 62, of Clarkesville, GA, formerly of Jackson, Alabama and Harwich, Massachusetts, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Habersham Medical Center in Demorest, GA.

Born in Jackson, AL on October 7, 1948, she was a daughter of the late Ward and Myrtle Garrett Pritchard.

Mrs. Christian was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Harwich, MA. Until the birth of her children, she was a dedicated school teacher having received a degree from Georgia College of Milledgeville. She then devoted her time to raising her children and becoming an active member of the Harwich community. Her efforts resulted in the founding of the youth soccer league and spirit committee. She was also involved with the Harwich public library as well as other school and civic organizations. She was the cheerleading coach at Harwich High School for many years. Mrs. Christian was a master craftsman in stained glass, wood carving, ceramics, painting, and sewing.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Dr. Walter P. Christian; daughter, Katherine Christian Bray of Walpole, MA; son, Walter Kenton Christian of London, England; daughter Lauren E. Christian of Quincy, MA; brothers, David R. Pritchard of Chatsworth, GA and Robert E. Pritchard of Jackson, AL; sister, Mary Etta Jennings of Chatsworth, GA; and two grandchildren, Christian Geoffrey Bray and Jackson Payne Breslin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday.
The family has requested that those who wish to honor Barbara's life through a memorial contribution can make a donation to May Institute in her name. All gifts will support the development of a new aquatics center for children at the May Center for Child Development.
