Richard Timothy Tam

Mr. Richard Timothy Tam, age 77 of Gainesville, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. The Reverend Wayne Hicks will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday, July 22, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Tam was born July 26, 1933 in Hilo, HI to the late How Ye Tam and Ah Pung Chang. He served three years in the United States Army. Mr. Tam was a charter member of New Haven Congregational Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cammie Tom.

After serving in the U.S. Army, he relocated to Gainesville where he met his wife and raised his family. He and his wife were married for over 50 years. Mr. Tam worked for the City of Gainesville for twenty five years. He was a very loving and devoted husband and father. His church family was also very dear to him. In his spare time, Mr. Tam enjoyed woodworking, gardening and following his "home team", the Atlanta Braves. He never met a stranger.

Mr. Tam is survived by his wife, Virginia Moncrief Tam of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Allison Tam of Raleigh, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Heather Tam of Gainesville; grandson, William Ward Tam; granddaughter, Ava Marie Tam; sisters, Mollie Chun and Patsy Chang; brothers, Clifford Tam, Wesley Tam, Walter Tam and Kenneth Tam.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Haven Congregational Holiness Church, 615 White Sulphur Road, Gainesville, GA 30507
