Marian (Williams) Thornton Ewing

Mrs. Marian (Williams) Thornton Ewing, age 81, of Lula, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at her residence following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at 2:00 pm in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Athens, GA. The Reverend Johnny Stone and Reverend Cecil Thomas will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm Thursday, July 21, 2011 and Friday, July 22, 2011 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ewing was born in Bogart, Georgia on April 17, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Oren Ray Williams and Viola Jeanette (Huff) Williams. She was retired from Northeast Georgia Medical Center and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Ewing was preceded in death by her first husband, Garnett W. Thornton; and second husband, Homer Ewing; son and daughter-in-law, Roger Darrell Thornton and Georgia Sherry Thornton; sisters, Martha "Rachel" Studdard and Nina Ruth Eberhart; and a grandson, Gregory Darrell Thornton.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Thornton-Thomas (Larry), Lula; and Ann Thornton-Brown (Robert), Braselton; son, Warren Larry Thornton, Crystal Springs, MS; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a sister hazel Joyce Guthrie of Statham, GA.
