Pierce Jackson Hancock, 89, of Gainesville, GA, died at his home Thursday, July 7, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eva Harvil and Ernest Jackson Hancock, his sister, Sybil Ledbetter, his brother Ernest Sewell Hancock and a son Jack Hancock.
He was born in Jackson County, GA and moved to Gainesville at the age of one. He attended Main Street school and graduated from Gainesville High School where he was a co-captain of the Red Elephants football team and later refereed high school football throughout Georgia for a number of years. He was an avid fan of the University of Georgia football team.
Pierce served in the Army during World War II from 1942
