Herman Verner Sparks

Mr. Herman Verner Sparks, age 93, of Commerce, GA died Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Northridge Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Sparks was born in Banks County, GA to the late Lee Cleveland and Lucy Mae Varner Sparks. He was a member of Bold Spring United Methodist Church and a World War II Army Veteran of the 8th Infantry. Mr. Sparks was retired from Roper Pump Company. He was the Senior Vice Commander of the Homer American Legion and on the Board of Directors of Farm Bureau. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Pendergrass Sparks; son, Charles Herman Sparks; and step-mother, Annelle Segars Sparks.
Mr. Sparks is survived by his wife, Ruth Davison Sparks of Commerce; daughter, Charlotte Gail McCloskey of Big Canoe, GA; sisters, Lois Davis of Smyrna, GA and Emily Jean Smith of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Jeff and Patrick Sparks, Elaine Tucker and Julie Lobree; great-grandchildren, Hali Sparks, Larry, John and Ted Thurmond, and Lily and Lena Lobree.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, July 9 at Bold Spring United Methodist Church with Rev. Jordan Thrasher officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday night from 6 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bold Spring United Methodist Church Building Fund.
