Peggy Yarbrough Lowe, 69, passed away on the morning of July 3, 2011. She was born the daughter of Margaret Witcher and Thomas Yarbrough on March 4,1942 in Clarke County, Georgia. She married Robert H. Lowe Sr. (Bob) on Christmas Eve, 1962, and they had two children: Robert and Leigh Anne.
She graduated from Athens High in 1960 and from Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in 1963. She later became a Family Nurse Practitioner while raising two young children. She worked for many years at Athens Regional Medical Center, Colbert Health Center and Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Peggy was known as a kind and devoted nurse who always went the extra mile for her patients. She was the best friend and mother that anyone could ever want and was the kind of person that put the interests of others ahead of her own.
Peggy and Bob attended the Gainesville First United Methodist Church and were devoted members of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class. Peggy also had a passion for gardening and loved to give and receive flowers. She was also a talented cook and delighted in making food for her family. Peggy took to heart her service through her Church, often making prayer quilts and volunteering with the Parish Nurse program. As a close friend stated "Her life spoke for itself."
She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, Robert H. Lowe, Sr. of Gainesville; her son, Robert H. Lowe, Jr. of Helen; daughter, Leigh Anne Lowe Landers of Athens, grandchildren, Sarah Hendley and James Lawson Landers, sister, Linda Daniel of Athens; brother, Wayne Yarbrough of Alexandria LA and his wife Sharon; and brother, Terry Yarbrough of Athens and his wife Anne. A number of nieces and nephews also survive who fondly remember Aunt Peggy as their "holiday green elf."
Visitation services will be held at Little and Davenport on Dawsonville Hwy on Tuesday, July 5 from 6:30 to 8:00. The memorial service will be held at Gainesville First United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 1:30 and the burial will take place on Thursday at Tuckston Methodist Church in Athens at 10:00.
