Elisebeth "Gi Gi" Greene

Mrs. Elisebeth Greene, affectionately known as "Gi Gi", of Gainesville, passed away at home Saturday, July 2, 2011.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 5th 2011 from 12-2pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home, North Riverside Chapel, located at 989 Riverside Drive. The viewing will be followed by a service at 2pm in the Chapel. Mrs. Greene was born May 21, 1915 in Hamburg, N.Y to Katherine and Albert Stratemeirer. She attended Lafayette High School in Buffalo, NY and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Buffalo. She survived her husband William Greene, Sr. who she married in Buffalo in 1941. The Greene's settled in Toronto, Canada after WW II and lived in Fort Lauderdale, FL before moving to Gainesville in 1986. Mrs. Greene taught kindergarten, first and second grades in the Ft. Lauderdale schools until retiring in 1985. She is a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, Broward County Retired Teachers Association, Lafayette High School Alumni Association and was a member of the Newcomer's Club of Gainesville. She is survived by sons William, Christopher and Dennis. In addition, she is survived by 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
