She was the daughter of the late Augusta Bendikta Anderson and Herman Sigfrid Peterson. Born in Brockton, Massachusetts in 1917, Ruth graduated from Brockton High School in 1935 and began work as a secretary at Barbour Welting Company. Soon she rose to the rank of Executive Secretary to the President of Bostonian Shoe in Boston. During that time, she met her future husband, Richard Chester Hill, while bicycling along W.D. Fields Parkway in Brockton. The couple was married on Nantucket Island on August 14, 1937, and honeymooned on Martha's Vineyard. They remained married until Mr. Hill's death in 1986.
While her children were young, Mrs. Hill devoted her time and energy to activities in which they were involved, serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Sunday School Teacher, grade school room mother, and Girl Scout Leader. She returned to the work force in the early 1960s, serving first as a bank teller and then branch manager of the Plymouth Home National Bank in her hometown of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts. She held that position until her retirement in 1972. She was always active in the community, serving for many years as a Deaconess at the First Congregational Unitarian Church in West Bridgewater, and also held office in the local KA Women's Club.
Following retirement, she and her husband moved to Naples Florida, where she remained until 1997, when she relocated to Gainesville. Mrs. Hill loved to bowl and belonged to many leagues both in Massachusetts and Florida. She was also an avid Shuffleboard player, and won the Naples, FL City Championship on several occasions.
