George Herbert Hope

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Central Baptist Church for Mr. George Herbert Hope, 83, of Gainesville, who passed away on Thursday, following an extended illness. Rev. Earl Pirkle and Dr. Jimmy Hope will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Little and Davenport Funeral Home on Friday, June 17, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

A lifetime resident of Hall County, Mr. Hope was the one of 13 children born to the late Jerry and Inez Dean Hope. Mr. Hope was a member, a deacon and a Sunday school teacher for many years at Central Baptist Church in Gainesville. He was a Navy Korean War Veteran and also a member and chaplain of the local Korean War Veterans Assoc. of Georgia. Mr. Hope retired as a Captain after 23 years with the City of Gainesville Fire Department. He was the first Executive Director of the Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Council where he retired in 1994. He was also an avid golfer.
In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his son Scott Hope.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lois Cain Hope of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Vicki Hope of Gainesville; grandson, Taylor Hope of Gainesville; sisters, Evelyn Smith of Anderson, SC, Ethel Page, Mary Ann Kendall both of Gainesville; brothers, Billy Hope, Dr. Jimmy Hope both of Gainesville; sister-in-law, Sylvia Mayfield of Gainesville and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church, 785 Main Street Gainesville, GA in his memory.
