Thomas Wayne Standridge
Obituary Date: Wednesday, June 15, 2011
Thomas Wayne Standridge was born July 3, 1922 in Commerce, Georgia to the late Boyd and Ola Mae Standridge. He entered into heaven on June 15, 2011 after a brief illness.
Wayne Standridge proudly served his country in the Army during
World War II as a member of the 375th Field Artillery Battalion in France
and Germany. He was an excellent marksman, once making 32 bulls eyes at 300 yards in one practice session. He received the American Theater Ribbon, The EAME Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the WW2 Victory Medal in addition to his medal for marksmanship. Before and after the war he was a truck driver who traveled to almost every state in the United States. He spent a number of years working with and around cars and was a fan of car racing and baseball.
A lifelong bachelor, Wayne was preceded in death by brothers Boyd (Jess) Standridge and Robert Standridge, sisters Elease Standridge Crow and Hazel Standridge Head. He is survived by sisters Doris Chambers of Clermont, Helen Butler of Gainesville and Jean Fields of Brookton as
well as numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his very dear friends, the Voyce Hunt family, the Margie Oliver family and the Storie Allison family and all of his lunch buddies. He will always be remembered as Kendall Allison's special sweetheart.
The family will receive visitors from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday June 16th at Strickland's Funeral Home in Clermont.
Funeral Services will be held Friday June 17th at 2:00 in the Chapel of
Strickland's funeral home, the Reverend Jimmy Ellis will officiate.
Interment will be at Christian Hill Baptist Church in Clermont.
