Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mya B. Lea, 55, of Clarkesville.
Ms. Lea died Monday, June 13, 2011, at her residence.
Born May 21, 1956, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., she was the daughter of Edith Vivian Agur and the late William John Rueger.
As a child, she lived on a sailboat in the Caribbean and the Bahamas for two to three years, where her mother taught her first through third grade.
One of Ms. Lea's loves was horses. She dedicated 30 years of her life training and competing with them, and she was trained for the equestrian Olympics team. For her work in horsemanship, she received a plethora of awards, blue ribbons and recognitions.
She loved the ocean, water, tropical islands and kayaking. She also was heavily into sailing and loved to sail whenever she could.
Ms. Lea received her master's degree in social work, and currently was working as a colon hydrotherapist and a clutter consultant.
She had lived in the Clarkesville area for about eight years, moving there from South Carolina. She also previously had lived in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Survivors include her life partner, Brian Swiff; her mother, Edith Vivian Agur of Oro Valley, Ariz.; and three cousins.
No public services are planned for Ms. Lea.
